A Journey Before Time

The film narrates the story  of Alexander Cosma  de Koros who had walked all the way from Hungary to British India in search of the roots of the Hungarian people. It is 1832. The East India Company is consolidating its hold in India. And the  first stirring of The Great Game is being played out. Csoma had been sent to the monasteries of Ladakh by Capt William Moorcraft-a British spy who was on his way to Bukhara to buy studs for the East India Company.  Csoma had met Moorcraft in Dras near Kargil in Northern India. But Moorcraft is killed  during his travels to Bukhara and cannot corroborate Csoma’s  testimony. Csoma is under investigation in Calcutta’s Asiatic Society for being a Russian spy.

The investigation also puts into focus the validity of Csoma’s works.. his translations and his credibility as a scholar.

As the investigation unfolds we witness  in  flashback Csoma’s saga..his early days.. his travels.. his adventures.. his love and loss..  and come to  understand his motivations..

The Politics of Reincarnation

Tibet is the only country in the world where both spiritual and temporal power is passed on not through a democratic process or nomination or even hereditary succession... but through the unique method of reincarnation . ( It was only in the month of April 2011 that the Dalai Lama retired from his temporal position). This feature documentary will examine the implications on Tibetan Buddhism and Tibet after the death of the current Dalai Lama.

It is not inconceivable that having established their right to recognize reincarnates, the Chinese would not hesitate to identify the successor to the present Dalai Lama. Many experts fear that Beijing may ignore the Dalai Lama's own declaration that he is the last in his line of incarnates and find a pliable fake who would help consolidate its grip on Tibet, thus setting into motion the Politics of Reincarnation.
